Rebound in half-leather and marbled boards sometime in the earlier 20th. century. Spine with five raised bands and in six compartments. Gilt lettering and decoration on the spine is extremely bright. A 1/2" split to the outer hinge of the lower front cover. Marbled endpapers. TEG. Fore and lower page edges are untrimmed. Wide margins. The large map by Osgood Carleton is present and has been expertly linen backed and tipped back in opposite the title page during the process of rebinding. There is a 8" tear to the upper half of the map that was nicely repaired. This does not really detract very much but is certainly noticeable. The majority of pages have some darkening or toning. There is some foxing present. A number of pages have some staining along the margin at the fore edge. There is a long horizontal tear to page 271/272. All is very tight with strong hinges and joints. The first history of Maine, published twenty five years before statehood. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 421 pages
