Green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles, Rip van Winkle illustration in gilt on front. All illustrations present: the frontispiece plate has some creasing to its lower right quarter (4 diagonal creases, the longest about 5-1/2"); each of the plates has its own captioned tissue guard, some of which show some light yellowing and/or foxing and a few with creasing/wear to the edges, however the illustrations themselves remain clean and bright. Foxing also to the text pages and half-title, and bookplate removal damage to both front endpapers. The binding remains firm and all pages secure, however from the exterior it is quite worn: few small splits to cloth along edges of spine, and the top inch of the spine is torn down either side, with some glue repair attempted, and glue apparently applied along the length of the spine's edges to prevent further splits to the cloth (there is clear but shiny residue along both edges of the spine); light chipping to spine ends, and corners bumped and worn to boards; lighter bumping and rubbing along board edges; some insect damage and light rubbing to covers and edges; slight sunning to spine. ; 51 Tipped-in Color Plates; 4to; 57+plates pages
