Lewis, Oscar (text) THE CALIFORNIA MINING TOWNS A Series of Twelve Rare Early Views of Towns and Camps of the Gold Rush San Francisco Book Club of California 1933 Limited Edition VG/NONE This set is incomplete, containing only half (6) of the issues plus the map/forward pamphlet issued last. Included are: No. Two SUTTER'S MILL (Dec. 1933), No. Three DOWNIEVILLE (Jan. 1934), No. Six NEVADA (Apr. '34), No. Seven JACKSON (May '34), No. Eleven COLUMBIA (Sep. '34) and No. Twelve SCOTTS BAR (Oct. '34). All are in excellent condition with only trace edgewear/rubbing, as is the introductory map pamphlet. The slipcase has some light sunning and scuffing to the leather spine, a long thin light red pencil line to the rear, and slight soiling/rubbing to the cloth.; The BCofC's first series of monthly keepsakes, with one pamphlet on a CA mining town issued to members for each month from Nov. 1933 through Oct. 1934, plus a final pamphlet containing a foreword and map of CA in 1851 issued in Nov. 1934 (beginning with the 2nd series of keepsakes, the 12 monthly parts were issued from Jan.-Dec of 1935). Each town is represented by an illustration tipped into a folder with a brief essay by Lewis, each folder printed by a different California press. All the pieces are enclosed in a two-piece, light brown cloth-covered slipcase with leather spine. 500 sets were issued. ; Oblong 8vo Price:
