8 Unknown Robert Indiana
Philadelphia Institute of Contemporary Art 1968 First Edition Softcover G/NONE
Square black and white wraps. Quite worn with a 2 1/2" tear to the lower spine. Other wear and small tears along the spine. Wear also to the lower, front cover edge and fore corner. Light creasing. There is a long, diagonal line of rubbing along the front as well. Former owner name of R. G. Carrott, UCR to the front free endpaper. This is likely the art critic and author who taught at U.C. Riverside. Importantly laid in loose is a 11" x 8 1/2" gallery flier from circa 1960, folded once, that was used as writing paper by Robert Indiana. The gallery is the Martha Jackson Gallery in New York. It is addressed to Richard Carrott along with Indiana's return address. It all appears to be in Indiana's hand. On the other half of the card is a long, interesting note from Indiana. He has signed it Bob. This would have dated before his first one-man exhibition. The stamp used on the card is a four cent stamp dated 1960. It was closed with a piece of clear tape and has some minimal soiling but is otherwise in very good condition. ; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall; 63 pages; Signed by Artist
