Bound in full polished calf by Root & Son. With gilt rules around the borders, front and rear. Gilt turn-ins. Top edge gilt. The spine with five raised bands and in six compartments. Leather title labels and volume numbers on each. Date at the foot of the spines. Four of the compartments on each is decorated with gilt playing cards, dancing girls, and Moet Champagne bottles. 656 & 668 pp. Marbled endpapers. Color pictorial titles plus thirty hand colored aquatint plates as listed in the contents. There are also the two additional plates not listed in the contents but that do seem to be found in some copies. Some rubbing to the covers, especially the high points on the spine. The left 1/4" of one spine label on volume two is missing. The contents are very nice indeed with only a few marginal stains, a few corners with small chips. The plates are excellent but for the frontispieces and colored title pages in each that do have some foxing. The upper 1/4" of the corners to these pages in volume one only are also chipped. A very presentable set. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall
